Karen Clark Sheard is an American gospel singer and songwriter. She is married to John Sheard, the presiding bishop of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). COGIC is the largest Pentecostal group in the United States.
She was invited to the Impact 2024 – Southwest Region Conference Camp Meeting in Athens, Texas last weekend. She was introduced and welcomed by Carlton Byrd. During her time on stage, she speaks in tongues (glossalalia) in front of an Adventist crowd at an Adventist campmeeting. Time stamp: 3:19:01 — 3:36:39.
Ecstatic tongue-speaking utterances at 3:22:10, 3:26:20, and 3:28:02 among others.
This woman (Karen Sheard) says:
“It doesn’t matter the denomination!”
“I didn’t know I was going to feel the Holy Ghost at the Seventh-day Adventists!!”
“C’mon shout unto God”
“This is a place for emotion!”
“bla bobba uk uk bipfog, I feel the presence of God.”
“Give God a standing ovation!!”
“Put your praise on it !! Screams…..”
A much better woman said:
"The things you have described as taking place in Indiana, the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. Every uncouth thing will be demonstrated. There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions. And this is called the moving of the Holy Spirit." Selected Messages," Book 2, pages 36-38.
Some comments from attendees/viewers:
“This is one of the most sacrilegious things I've ever seen. Lord have mercy! Christ is surely coming soon.”
“I enjoyed your lesson study until you took me back to where I ran from. E E Cleveland's presentations got me out of pentecostalism church and you just took me back.”
“I’m from Methodist background and by the grace of God now I’m an Adventist since 2013. It is so sad to see this kind of worship in SDA church. May God open their hearts to discern between right and wrong.”
“You will never see this happening at a Doug Batchelor meeting”
“This is the new style of worship in NAD especially in our black churches and if you disagree with them they will "try" to cancel you.”
“Words cannot describe the shock that I am experiencing. As an SDA living in Tanzania I had heard about controversy over music in the church. But this is far worse than I could have imagined. Father save us in Jesus name.”
“This is not an Adventist woman. This is Karen Clarke-Sheard a well-known gospel singer. She will be at North Eastern Camp meeting in June - July. How do we explain these things to our young people and try to tell them about standards and worship? I think we need to pray for our young people who are heavily influenced by this. Pastor Carlton Byrd may have good intentions in reaching other denominations but the effects are devastating. This is serious and no good will come to our young people from this. Our young musicians are now performing in the Sunday churches because the Sunday churches pay them well. Sadly, they are bringing the same style of worship from the Sunday churches back to the Sabbath praise and worship.”
