An 18 year-old girl, “Layla Jane,” who was prescribed puberty blockers as a 12 year-old, and whose breasts were removed at age 13 has sued the butchers who did this and the hospital at which they “practice medicine.” Jane, whose given name is Kayla Lovdahl, has since “detransitioned,” meaning that she has resumed identifying with her biological sex.
The doctors carried out “ideological and profit-driven medical abuse” when they prescribed puberty blockers and hormones for the pre-teen girl, and later performed a double mastectomy, said Charles LiMandri, one of the lawyers representing the plaintiff.
Jane, now 18, was convinced by online influencers when she was just 11, an then told her parents, that she was a boy. Her parents then asked for guidance from doctors.
While three doctors said Jane was too young for cross-sex hormones, she was eventually referred to several other doctors who prescribed puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. Six months later, they removed her breasts.
The hormones and puberty blockers were prescribed based on a single hour and fifteen minute session with Susanne Watson, a psychologist (not a psychiatrist or an MD), according to the lawsuit. Dr. Winnie Tong, a plastic surgeon, concluded after a 30-minute session that Jane should have her breasts removed.
“Defendants did not question, elicit, or attempt to understand the psychological events that led Kayla to the mistaken belief that she was transgender, nor did they evaluate, appreciate, or treat her multi-faceted presentation of co-morbid symptoms. Instead, Defendants assumed that Kayla, a twelve-year-old emotionally troubled girl, knew best what she needed to improve her mental health and figuratively handed her the prescription pad. There is no other area of medicine where doctors will surgically remove a perfectly healthy body part and intentionally induce a diseased state of pituitary gland misfunction based simply on the young adolescent patient’s wishes.”
Another psychologist, Doreen Samelson, had told Jane and her parents that Jane should not receive puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones due to factors such as her age.
Jane is currently receiving psychotherapy for mental health issues such as social anxiety disorder, which should have been offered instead of permanent sexual mutilation, the suit states. The overwhelming majority of children who experience gender dysphoria ultimately become comfortable with their birth sex.
Several studies have found that people who underwent chemical or surgical procedures to “transition” experience higher suicide rates, and some countries have restricted the usage of puberty blockers due to the lack of clinical research that supports using them on youth wanting to transition.
The suit alleges that the doctors did not provide Jane with informed consent (because no one knows enough about long-term outcomes for there to be any such thing as informed consent as it relates to “gender affirming care” and/or “gender re-assignment surgery”).
Instead of worrying about informed consent and other antiquated notions, the “doctors” falsely claimed that Jane’s dysphoria would not resolve unless she underwent the procedure, when, in reality, most childhood gender dysphoria cases do resolve without medical or surgical intervention.
In bullying Jane and her parents into the mutilation, one of the “doctors” said, “Would you rather have a live son or a dead daughter?”
Of course, physical mutilation can never change a girl into a boy—that is imprinted in the DNA from the moment of conception—and the idea that Jane would kill herself if they did not cut her breasts off is preposterous. In fact, the contrary is statistically closer to the truth: those who have taken irreversible steps to “transition” are at greater risk of suicide.
“Nobody—none of my doctors—tried anything to make me comfortable in my body, or meaningfully pushed back or asked questions; they only affirmed,” her mental illness, Jane told The Epoch Times.
“The law says children aren’t mature enough to make serious decisions that could have long lasting consequences like getting a tattoo, driving with friends, drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, or even voting,” Jane said in a statement. “So why is it acceptable for 13-year-olds to decide to mutilate their body?”
The defendants are Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and the Permanente Medical groups, and Suzanne Watson. The suit was filed in the Superior Court of the state of California.
“Kaiser continues to engage in the quackery of subjecting innocent children to irreversible sex mimicry treatment, including drugs and surgery, without informed consent,” Harmeet Dhillon, CEO of the Center for American Liberty, which is also representing Jane, said in a statement.
“The medical providers responsible for Layla’s case, along with countless others, have substituted woke ideology—including lying to and manipulating vulnerable patients and families—for medically accepted standards of care,
“We are committed to holding them accountable for the harm inflicted upon Layla, and together we intend to strongly deter Kaiser’s assembly-line approach that permanently mutilates an unknown number of American children, subjecting them to a lifetime of harm, regret, and medical consequences.”
Readers might recall that a similar lawsuit was filed earlier this year by Chloe Cole, whose breasts were removed when she was 15. We reported on Chloe’s lawsuit here.
At that time we said,
The SDA church is sitting on its thumbs (so far) on this important issue. Instead of blathering on about global warming and climate change, how about taking a strong stand against this kind of mutilation and the LGBTQ+ lies that promote it. We had really better get out ahead of this issue. Be bold, be swift and be biblical. Millions will respect us for such clarity and courage.
“Haven’t you read,” [Jesus] replied, “that at the beginning the Creator [also Jesus] ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’” Mat. 19:4-5
