Wouldn’t it be great if . . .

April 8, 2022 Gerry Wagoner

Adventists were known as the people of the Book?  Again.

GC ADCOM actually helped to discipline the rebellious Unions and Divisions for thumbing their nose(s) at worldwide session decisions instead of chasing the latest cultural trends in order to appear relevant?

If well-known radio preachers like Dr. David Jeremiah referred to positive examples of biblical fidelity among Adventists, instead of weird liberal apostasies like Ryan Bell?

If potlucks always had a warm basket of fried plant-based chicketts as appetizers?

If our schools were known for educating children on the biblical dangers of moral failure and LGBTQ deviancy?

Our schools helped students resolve transgender confusion, and became nationally known for doing so. People would pull their children out of Pharoah’s school systems and send them to us.

"I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13)

~

"I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13) ~ "I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13) ~

We resolved our differences in the Church instead of pretending those differences don’t exist?

We shunned drinking in culture with the same conviction that we shun alcohol?

Adventist youth were encouraged to be entrepreneurs instead of trained to be employees.

All of our leaders were firm, but fair.

Adventist marriages were a model that the world would point to, saying “I wish we were like that.”  They would come to us for answers.

We asked God for more faith and didn’t grumble when hardship came our way?

People who don’t agree with the beliefs of the SDA Church would politely move elsewhere instead of undermining it from within? That’d be great.

General Conference Session decisions were honored by all those who participated in the decisions?

Adventists cut the cords off their televisions for 30 days each year? (Or more.)

We all learned parts and sang two songs in acapella harmony during each service?

Adventists had the best BMI numbers in a relatively obese nation?

They made veggie-link flavored chewing gum? (Okay, maybe not that.)

Our youth would get married after they completed a course of biblical counseling?

Adventists universally valued the sanctity of life, except for ticks and starlings? (Insert your own anathema here.)

Worldiness and legalism were shunned with equal fervor?

Adventists valued wisdom more than degrees?

Adventists were apolitical?

Our Message was understood and believed by every member?

White folk and black folk told each other what they appreciate about them?  (This works with all ethnicities.)

We realized that churches are better off with 50 people who know why they're there, then 500 who don't have a clue?

Love for the Lord and one another was supreme in our lives?

Developing the Mind of Christ was our greatest passion?

The Church was willing to stand up to worldliness (liberalism) in our culture and deal with it in the Church?

Eating popcorn was a fundamental belief?  (This helps us to spot potential Jesuits.)

We had a balanced view of diet & lifestyle instead of insisting that righteousness is attained by eating a lettuce leaf and a whiff of steam?

We all sang “Marvelous Grace” together while sitting in a cave (ok, a large cave)?

We approached baptism with the proper spirit of commitment and submission?  There would be no reason to repeat it later.

Men and woman both accepted their special complementary roles with gratitude?

We regarded the Bible as the Word of God and allowed nothing to take its place.

We read the SOP and appreciate its inspiring  effect on our life?

Once a year the elders would visit members and ask them “Are you still in harmony with the beliefs of the Church?”

Conference leaders and treasurers had to have a healthy BMI in order to be elected?  Men should be able to replace the starter on their cars.

We had more carpenters and plumbers on executive committees instead of people who are paid by the Org and often vote to reward their job security?

You couldn’t graduate from an Adventist institution until you learned a trade or skill?

Adventist parents would tell their children once a month “I love you and I’m glad you’re part of our family”?

We all lived in the same city on the New Earth?  Let’s do that.
