Attorney and religious liberty expert Jonathan Zirkle sits down with Dr. Roger Seheult, a source of medical information during the pandemic. Together they discuss Covid and the SDA church, and ask the question “What can both sides of the recent controversies agree upon?”
I appreciate both of these men for being willing to discuss this controversial issue in light of the wider ramifications of the gospel and liberty of conscience. Perhaps SDA administrators could learn something from these two brother’s honesty and willingness to dialogue.
John Zirkle has rewritten the problematic 2015 ADCOM Vaccine Statement into a version that both professionals agree on. The new version removed a problematic sentence that our church member’s medical convictions rely on peer-reviewed science in addition to the Bible and SOP. This clause is an unnecessary offence to millions of honest church members who value the spiritual oversight and protections of our Adventist Health Message. Peer-reviewed science, after all, gave the world macro evolution.
2015 Vaccine Statement
Re-written Statement
I have observed that many, many people in the church agree that the 2015 Immunization Statement and the subsequent 2021 Reaffirmation Statement should be simply removed or rewritten.
I believe 80% of the current conflict in the church could be ameliorated by altering the 2015 Statement in the way that Attorney Zirkle suggests, and by removing the 2021 Reaffirmation Statement which violated the liberty of conscience of millions of church members and supported an unconstitutional mandate. That would be a huge step towards resolution.
