True Revival: National and Political?

Last Saturday, September 26, 2020, more than 50,000 people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to pray that America returns to Biblical roots and the covenant they believe God has with her.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Franklin Graham led a prayer march from the Lincoln memorial to the U.S. Capitol at 12:00 noon. Messianic-evangelical minister Jonathan Cahn and Pastor Kevin Jessip led The Return, an all-day music, prayer, and preaching event near the Washington Monument with a host of popular, evangelical leaders.

Multitudes of concerned Christians traveled from across the nation to converge on the National Mall to seek revival and reformation—not only individually and ecclesiastically, but nationally and politically. The apparent godlessness of the age gave expression to determination and zeal for uniting church and state that ring with prophetic fulfillment to the student of history and Scripture.

Forgetting the results of Constantine’s nominal conversion of Rome, one speaker claimed,

“When the heart of God is infused within the heart of the church, we see revival. And when the heart of God is infused within civil government, we see reformation. And when revival is coupled with reformation, we see an awakening that pours over to the people, and a nation can be saved in a day.”

Claiming spiritual pre-eminence over other nations, another repented to God, praying,

“as an American, for breaking, for violating covenant with you, for we have covenantal, Biblical governance, Father, and we have not acknowledged you as the head of our nation. We have not listened to your decrees, or followed your admonitions . . . I repent before you, from turning away from your laws, your precepts . . . I repent for leaving you out of our decision-making in government, for you are the source of all truth, and justice, and righteousness . . . pour it out upon us, and once again, lead us into your presence and revival.”

Another speaker proposed that the church represented a legislative body, and urged,

“It is time to rebuild. Jesus said to Peter, Who do you say that I am? … He became the next generation. Jesus said that on this rock of revelation, I will build my ecclesia, my legislative body. Not a church a building, not a man’s kingdom, but a legislative body to make a difference in the world.”

Fast-paced emotional music kept the crowds interested, and trumpet after trumpet were blown with blessings on those praying for revival and reformation. The shofar blasts and accompanying blessings were received in waves by the ecstatic and swaying with hands outstretched. It appeared as if a spell was being cast. A more accurate script for modern revivals could not have been written.

The themes of Elijah, the remnant of God, and repentance were common throughout the event. Set within worldly and political ambitions, these powerful truths were neutralized. They contradicted the gospel of Jesus who preached His kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36), and chose the Roman cross instead of the worldly throne.

Sincere Christians today look for America’s freedom from ungodly influences, with Christ seated in government, like the Jews in Christ’s day looked for the overthrow of pagan Rome. Those that decry the abuses and ungodliness of paganism need the light and power of the gospel of Christ of true revival and reformation, instead of the weapons of state, right now.

Literature Distribution

Commensurate to the revival programs of the day, God led in organizing mission teams to distribute over 50,000 pieces of important literature about revivals and the issues in the controversy between good and evil.

One group had only 30-40 workers, and with God’s help had nearly exhausted their supply of 25,000 pieces by early afternoon! They reported a deep hunger and interest for the material they provided, people reading the booklets, and asking for more! God has a people who long for the truth of His Word.

Now is the time to share the truth about revival and liberty of conscience while we have the liberty to do so!
